Canada Post Disruption

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW)  started rotating strikes in Victoria, Edmonton, Windsor and Halifax on Monday, October 22, 2018. Canada Post continues to operate across Canada and continues to accept and deliver mail and parcels in all other locations.

We recommend always tracking packages, even if there is not a postal disruption, so you can provide proof of the date the package was mailed and received.

If you have a time sensitive document submission deadline consider the following:

Check if the document must be an original or if it can be a copy.

If it must be an original

  • Check if there is a local office that can accept submissions
  • Contact the office on the government letter and request an extension
  • Submit via fax, email or online account
    • Include the request letter
    • Include a letter explaining you are concerned about the submission deadline and the original is in the mail
  • Mail the original
    • Track the package
    • Include a copy of the request letter
    • Include letter with the submission details (date, email address/fax number) and proof
  • Always keep a copy of document submissions

If a copy is allowed

  • Submit via online account, email or fax

Where to send the document

  • Look for a fax or email address on the request letter
  • If none is available look below for contact details
